Tim, you have an uncanny knack of accurately describing situations like the one in which we find ourselves.
The polls show a miraculous gain for the Liberals under Carney, as if he is the saviour of Canada. His cv alone seems to have persuaded people to put their faith in him. This is despite the fact thar most of his cabinet are the same persons who miserably stumbled through the last nine years.
Whether the Conservatives deserve to govern, is another matter. However, our first past the post system, which the Liberals promised to abolish, is going to hand a whopping majority of seats to the Liberals with far less than a majority of votes. Mr. Carney will then act as if he has a strong mandate to implement his favourite policy: net zero carbon emissions, with all that entails.
I predict that soon Trump will be hounded by Republican governors, senators, and representatives into reducing considerably the tariffs or even rescinding them. Otherwise, the U.S. will suffer severe stagflation coupled with a bear market.
Once the tariffs are gone, either due to the above or to a newly negotiated CUSMA, Canadians will be faced with the same basically incompetent government as in the last 9 years. The only difference will be that the PM has a more impressive cv and looks like somebody's dad.
In Canada, we never seem to learn from our mistakes.
No. My official position on this election is fetal.
So, shall we put you down as undecided?
